- New Warning for propylthiouracil
The FDA recently issued a MedWatch Safety Alert regarding the drug propylthiouracil (PTU) and the risk of serious liver injury, including liver failure and death. The FDA recommends that PTU be reserved for patients allergic to or intolerant of methimazole, or in their first trimester of pregnancy.
