Rose Crane
Chief Executive Officer
Before joining Epocrates, Rose Crane spent over 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry in a variety of leadership roles. Most recently, Rose was a Company Group Chairman at Johnson and Johnson, where she managed the OTC/Nutritional business worldwide. Her group's acquisition of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare resulted in Johnson & Johnson becoming the largest OTC company worldwide, with a well balanced portfolio of diverse brands. She also served as a Company Group Chairman for the consumer, specialty and nutritionals business during her tenure.
Prior to Johnson and Johnson, Rose was President of the U.S. Primary Care division for Bristol-Myers Squibb, where she was responsible for all sales, marketing, regulatory and compliance operations, managing a $6.5 billion budget. During her time at Bristol Myers Squibb, Rose also held a variety of marketing, sales and product management leadership positions.
Rose holds a B.A. from SUNY Oswego and an M.B.A. from Kent State University.
Jeff Tangney
President, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder
Jeff brings over 15 years of healthcare/pharmaceutical experience to his position at Epocrates. Prior to co-founding Epocrates in 1998, Jeff was a pharmaceutical strategy consultant at ZS Associates, where he counseled Fortune 500 clients on marketing strategy. At ZS, Jeff advised clients in 16 countries and helped structure the largest co-promotion alliance in pharmaceutical history. Jeff’s industry experience also includes positions at Goldman Sachs as a healthcare investment banker and at biotech start-up Pangene Corporation as a director of business development. Jeff graduated summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Economics, and earned an M.B.A. from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
Rick Van Hoesen
Executive Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Rick brings to the Epocrates team extensive experience as a public and private company CFO, most recently at NetIQ Corporation, a $265 million revenue enterprise software company. At NetIQ, Rick oversaw the successful implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance processes and best-in-breed revenue recognition practices, as well as extensive systems improvement work. Prior to NetIQ, Rick was CFO at privately-held XACCT Technologies, where he was responsible for building a public company financial infrastructure and raising over $50 million in private equity. Earlier in his career, he was Chief Financial Officer at several other publicly-traded software companies, including Micro Focus and Wall Data and he held senior management positions at Sun Microsystems and Teradata. Rick holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Paul Banta
Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Paul joined the Epocrates team with over 13 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Epocrates, Paul was Senior Vice President at PCS Health Systems with responsibility for strategic alliances with the pharmaceutical industry as well as overall management responsibility for PCS’ information business. Previously, Paul had been Assistant General Counsel at PCS for several years with broad responsibilities ranging from transactions to litigation and regulatory compliance. Before joining PCS in 1995, Paul served as General Counsel for Integrated Disease Management, Inc., a start-up disease management company, and spent 5 years at Eli Lilly and Company as legal counsel. He received his A.B. magna cum laude from Bowdoin College and his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Columbia University.
Robert Quinn
Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer
Bob brings to the Epocrates team nearly 20 years of experience as an engineer and software development manager. Prior to joining Epocrates, Bob served as VP of Engineering for iDini Corporation, a wireless software startup, and was instrumental in the growth and acquisition of Inpart Design, an internet-based engineering services company that is now part of PTC. Previously, Bob held a variety of technical and engineering-management positions with IBM. He received his bachelor’s from Dartmouth College, holds a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, and was a research fellow at Harvard University prior to joining IBM.
Joe Kleine
Executive Vice President, Healthcare Business
Joe Kleine's career spans more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry. At Epocrates, Joe established the company's healthcare sales business and led the team to work with all of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies.
Prior to joining Epocrates, Joe led strategic planning and business development for a top 10 medical advertising agency within the Omnicom network. He began his career with Eli Lilly & Company where he held several sales and marketing leadership positions. Joe earned a bachelor's degree at Dickinson College, and an M.B.A. from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
Matt Campion
Executive Vice President, Market Research Business
Matt's career spans 26 years in healthcare market research. Since joining Epocrates in 2000, Matt established the Epocrates Honors panel, a recruitment platform for online surveys that leverages the company's relationship with healthcare professionals. He has since grown it to the largest, verified opted-in physician panel in the U.S., and expanded the company's market research services internationally. Additionally, Matt facilitated a partnership with Goldman Sachs to provide investors the opportunity to survey clinicians through the MedInsight product suite.
Prior to Epocrates, Matt spent three years with Schrader Research, and 14 years with Total Research Corporation where he served as Executive Vice President for the Global Life Science Division. Matt earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Boston University.
Michelle Snyder
Senior Vice President, Subscriber Business
Michelle has driven marketing, strategic partnership and sales efforts at Epocrates since the company's first product launch in 1999. She currently oversees the Subscriber Business Unit and is responsible for all sales, marketing and product activities that drive clinician network growth and individual/institutional subscription sales.
Prior to joining Epocrates, Michelle was a senior manager at the Wilkerson Group (TWG)/IBM, a health care strategy consulting firm focusing on pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, payor/provider and early stage technology companies. Prior to TWG, Michelle worked in the health care policy field as a consultant with The Lewin Group and as a researcher with the Center for Health Policy Studies, Georgetown University. She received her B.S. in psychology and economics from Carleton College, and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
