More than 100,000 program developers have taken up Steve Job's invitation to develop new features for the iPhone, since Apple's Chief Executive last week offered a kit developers could download to make applications for the phone, the Cupertino company said today.
Since Apple offered the kit on March 6, interest among developers "has been incredible," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
By adding game and business applications to the iPhone, Apple hopes to broaden the device's appeal and better compete with the Blackberry. AOL, Electronic Arts, Epocrates, salesforce.com and Sega already have used the kit to create applications for the iPhone.
