Physicians Rely on Epocrates to Save Time, Enhance Patient Safety
Illinois State Medical Society Partners with Leading Provider of Electronic Medical Data
A majority of Illinois physicians responding to a recent survey said that quick access to drug, disease and diagnostic information with Epocrates software products helps them save time and improve patient health care.
Of the 200 survey participants, 37 percent save 11-29 minutes per day using Epocrates products, 25 percent save 30-60 minutes per day and nearly 5 percent save more than 60 minutes per day.
“Epocrates saves me at least 15-25 minutes a day,” said Robert J. Oliver, M.D., an internist/ pediatrician from Tinley Park, IL. “It not only helps me with drug information but also with medical calculations.”
Epocrates Essentials product includes references to more than 3,500 different drugs, information on up to 30 drug interactions at a time and treatment recommendations for more than 1,200 diseases and conditions. The software also provides built-in dosing and medical calculators, patient medication instructions and information on hundreds of health plan medication formularies.
To help physicians improve productivity, the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) and Epocrates have agreed to offer mobile technology to 14,000 ISMS members. Members may acquire mobile and handheld products, including the Epocrates Essentials all-in-one clinical reference suite, individual Epocrates clinical applications and the Internet-based desktop reference Epocrates Rx Online. Student and resident members will also receive substantial savings.
“The Illinois State Medical Society looks for value-added services for its members,” said ISMS President Craig A. Backs, M.D. “We recommend Epocrates products as a member benefit that will assist physicians in their practice and increase patient safety in the future.”
“We are pleased to team up with the Illinois State Medical Society to support their adoption of technology to increase patient safety. The results reported by Illinois physicians who already use Epocrates products show the benefit that society members can achieve with mobile technology,” said Kirk Loevner, Epocrates, Inc. President and CEO.
