Healthcare Technology Pioneer Joins Epocrates Board of Directors
Dr. John Halamka, CIO of Harvard Medical School, Unites Technology and Medicine
Epocrates, Inc., today announced the appointment of John D. Halamka, MD, MS, to its board of directors. Dr. Halamka will help the company’s management team shape future product direction and provide expertise as an educator and clinician.

Dr. Halamka is leading the charge to improve the interoperability of medical technology by bridging the gap between payers and providers. He is also working closely with multiple government agencies and private sector companies to advance the role of information technology in healthcare.

I believe that Epocrates is integral in getting us there by providing invaluable clinical applications and solutions that foster technology adoption among clinicians,” said Dr. Halamka. “ I look forward to working with Epocrates as they continue to develop products that can help healthcare professionals enhance patient care, reduce medical errors and improve workflow.”
Dr. Halamka is currently chief information officer (CIO) and associate dean for educational technology at Harvard Medical School and CIO of the Harvard Clinical Research Institute; CIO at CareGroup Health System; and chairman of the New England Health Electronic Data Interchange Network. In addition, Dr. Halamka is a practicing emergency physician, father and an avid ice and rock climber conquering thousands of miles a year.
As a member of the board, Dr. Halamka will help champion the adoption of technology in medical education where nearly one in two U.S. medical students are currently using Epocrates clinical reference solutions.
