Charles L. Bowden, M.D.
Charles L. Bowden, M.D., is the Nancy U. Karren Clinical Professor of the Department of Psychiatry and a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He has received many honors, including the 2008 NARSAD Falcone Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Mood Disorder Research and the 2006 Mind of America Scientific Research Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Dr. Bowden serves on the editorial boards of the journals Bipolar Disorders and Depression and Anxiety. He is an Associate Editor for Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica and a reviewer for several journals, including Archives of General Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, and the Journal of the American Medical Association. Dr. Bowden's research principally concerns the symptomatic and biological characterization of bipolar disorder, as well as the effectiveness and pharmacodynamics of mood stabilizing drugs. He has acted as principal investigator for numerous studies and authored or co-authored more than 380 articles.
