View Formulary Status for a Drug
The free formulary feature enables you to prescribe drugs that have the best coverage from your patient's health plan or hospital.
When you have a formulary selected in the Epocrates Rx drug database, you
can easily look up formulary status and find alternative therapies.
How?
First, select formularies from the hundreds available (requires you to sign in to the Epocrates website; mobile users — don't forget to AutoUpdate (sync while connected to the Internet) to install your formularies on your device).
Then ...
All Mobile Software Users:
- Tap on the Rx tab in your Epocrates application.
- Select a formulary from the drop-down menu beneath the application tabs.
- Look up a drug.
- Tap on the underlined formulary code to the right of the drug (for example: Y, N, 3, GN, OTC, 3PA, 2QL)
- The explanation of the formulary code will be displayed in the yellow pop-up box along with any detailed information provided by the payer.
- To search for an alternative medication in the same therapeutic class, tap on Tap here for Alternatives.
- Sort By Code or By Drug. If you sort by code, drugs with the most preferred formulary status will appear first.
- Tap on another drug to go to that drug monograph.
Epocrates Rx Online Users:
- Click on the Rx tab.
- Select a formulary from the drop-down menu under Formulary.
- For information about the formulary, click on Info.
- Search for a drug.
- The formulary status will be automatically displayed in the yellow information box, along with any detailed information provided by the payer.
- To search for an alternative medication in the same therapeutic class, click on Click here for Alternatives.
- You can Sort by Drug or Sort by Code. If you sort by code, drugs with the most preferred formulary status will appear first.
- Click on another drug to go to that drug monograph.
Install the Epocrates Dx Application on a Memory/Expansion Card
If you subscribe to the Epocrates Dx disease reference or Epocrates Essentials
all-in-one reference for Palm OS, you can free up about 2 MB of memory on
your device by storing the Epocrates Dx application on an SD, mini-SD, or MMC
expansion card.
How?
Epocrates Dx/Epocrates Essentials for Palm OS Only:
- Check that your expansion card is compatible with the Epocrates Dx application —
view a detailed list of supported cards.
- On your device, tap on Epocrates and then tap on the Dx tab.
- In Dx, tap on the e symbol in the upper left corner, tap on App and then Memory Management.
- You can tap the current location of the program to change it. Please note that it may take several minutes for the data to be transferred — you will see a dialog box on your handheld indicating the progress of the transfer.
- If this does not work for you, you may need to redownload using our easy one-sync installation process. Please refer to the detailed instructions in
FAQ #865.
