potent diuretic in excessive amounts can cause profound diuresis w/ water and electrolyte depletion; medical supervision required; individualize dose and schedule to patient needs
Adult Dosing .
Dosage forms: TAB: 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 2 mg; INJ: various
edema

- Dose: 0.5-10 mg/day PO divided qd-bid; Start: 0.5-2 mg PO qd, may give additional 1-2 doses q4-5h until adequate response; Max: 10 mg/day; Info: for patients w/ CHF, hepatic disease, or renal disease; maintenance doses may be given on alternate days, or x3-4 days/wk w/1-2 rest days in between

- Dose: 0.5-10 mg/day IM/IV divided qd-bid; Start: 0.5-1 mg IM/IV x1, may give additional 1-2 doses q2-3h until adequate response; Max: 10 mg/day; Info: for patients w/ CHF, hepatic disease, or renal disease; switch to PO ASAP
