indicated only for females with severe diarrhea-predominant IBS with inadequate response to conventional tx
GI Adverse Reactions
infrequent but serious adverse reactions reported, including ischemic colitis and serious constipation complications, resulting in hospitalization, blood transfusion, surgery, and death; immediately D/C tx if constipation or ischemic colitis symptoms; do not resume tx if ischemic colitis occurs; advise patients to immediately report constipation or ischemic colitis symptoms and contact prescriber if constipation does not resolve after D/C tx; patients with resolved constipation should resume tx only on advice of treating prescriber
Adult Dosing .
Dosage forms: TAB: 0.5 mg, 1 mg
IBS, severe diarrhea-predominant

- Start: 0.5 mg PO bid x4wk; Max: 2 mg/day; Info: for female patients; hold if constipation occurs, then if symptoms resolve, may restart 0.5 mg PO qd; D/C if constipation recurs; D/C use if no response at max dose x4wk
