DEA extends pandemic telehealth rules for prescribing controlled substances
October 12, 2023
The Drug Enforcement Administration announced on October 6th that it will allow providers to continue using telemedicine to prescribe certain controlled substances through the end of 2024. During the pandemic, the telemedicine expansion allowed patients to receive medical care and prescriptions for controlled medications virtually, without the need to meet a provider in person. Controlled medications include stimulant medications for ADHD, anxiety medicines, and medications for opioid use disorder. DEA said it's working to write new regulations by fall 2024.
