WHO declares end to COVID-19 health emergency
May 5, 2023
COVID-19 is no longer a global public health emergency, declared WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday, advising that it's time to transition to long-term management of the COVID-19 pandemic. He cited a decreasing trend in COVID-19 deaths, the decline in COVID-19 related hospitalizations and ICU admissions, and the high levels of population immunity to SARS-CoV-2. WHO had declared the coronavirus outbreak to be a public health emergency of international concern in January 2020.
