CDC recommends pneumococcal vaccination starting at age 50
October 25, 2024

CDC has updated its guidelines to recommend pneumococcal vaccination for adults starting at age 50, down from the previous recommendation of age 65. This change aims to provide earlier protection against serious illnesses like pneumonia, meningitis, and bloodstream infections, which are more prevalent in older adults. Physicians are encouraged to discuss vaccination status with patients ages 50 and above, especially as the winter respiratory season approaches.
