Challenges in diagnosing chemotherapy-induced pseudocellulitis

Among 81 cases in this systematic review, most of which were associated with gemcitabine use, only 39 were considered to be true chemotherapy-induced pseudocellulitis, because they resembled infectious cellulitis and didn't meet the criteria for other diagnoses. Of this group, 26 patients had been given antibiotics prior to receiving a correct diagnosis, and 14 patients had interruptions to their treatment plans. Authors call for more clinical research and a universally accepted definition of chemotherapy-induced pseudocellulitis to improved diagnosis, treatment, and antibiotic stewardship.
