According to a large, population-based study, CSF protein levels can vary considerably among individuals, while elevated levels are independently associated with older age, male sex, and diabetes. What's considered normal upper limits for CSF protein may actually be too low, say study authors, who call for evidence-based reevaluation and standardization.
