FDA issues updated alert on supplements containing toxic yellow oleander
November 7, 2025

On November 3, 2025, FDA updated its warning about certain dietary supplements marketed as tejocote root or Brazil seed that are adulterated with yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana), a highly toxic plant. Ingesting yellow oleander can cause severe and potentially fatal neurological, gastrointestinal, and cardiac effects. Products identified include brands such as VidaSlim, SdB Elite, Alipotec, and others, sold primarily online through platforms like Amazon and Etsy. The complete list of products can be found in the FDA advisory. While some companies have issued voluntary recalls, others have not, and FDA warns these products may still be available.
Consumers should stop using these products immediately and dispose of them safely. Anyone who's taken them should seek medical attention—even without symptoms—and report adverse events to FDA. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and irregular heart rhythms. The agency continues to investigate and work with online retailers to remove these products from the market.
