How does the U.S. compare with other countries in terms of life expectancy?

New research finds that the U.S. currently ranks worse than average for life expectancy, compared with other developed nations. The U.S. life expectancy of 76.4 years was lower than the global average of 80.3 years, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Health at a Glance report. Japan, Switzerland and Korea led a large group of 27 OECD countries in which life expectancy at birth exceeded 80 years in 2021.
