Relying on one-size-fits-all BP cuffs can lead to inaccurate readings

Use of standard, regular-sized blood pressure cuffs can result in “strikingly inaccurate” readings, particularly for patients with larger arm circumferences who require larger cuffs. In the Cuff(SZ) randomized crossover trial, use of a regular BP cuff for individuals requiring a large or extra-large BP cuff resulted in a statistically significant higher BP reading—mean systolic BP difference, 4.8 mm Hg and 19.5 mm Hg, respectively.
