Severe endometriosis linked to significantly higher ovarian cancer risk
August 19, 2024

Researchers have discovered that women with severe types of endometriosis, such as deep infiltrating endometriosis and ovarian endometriomas, have a significantly higher risk of developing ovarian cancer. The study, which analyzed data from over 78,000 women, found that those with endometriosis were more than four times as likely to develop ovarian cancer compared with those without the condition. Among the women with more severe endometriosis subtypes, the risk of type I cancer was almost 19 times greater than in women without endometriosis.
