Stephen Colbert's 'The Late Show' sidelined as host recovers from ruptured appendix
November 29, 2023

Stephen Colbert will be cancelling this week’s previously scheduled new episodes of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” as he recovers from surgery due to a ruptured appendix.
Celebrities Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann, Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer and Barbara Streisand were scheduled to appear as guests on the “Late Show” starting Tuesday when the show returned from Thanksgiving break.
Fans read the news via a post on the CBS show’s official Threads page on Monday. “Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week,” the post reads. “I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix. I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”
Only a few months ago, in mid-October, Colbert tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to cancel a week’s worth of shows.
