USPSTF reaffirms early syphilis screening for all pregnant patients
May 29, 2025

U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has reaffirmed its 2018 recommendation for universal screening for syphilis during pregnancy.
In its 2025 update, the agency endorses early universal screening for syphilis infection during pregnancy--and screening at the first available opportunity if an individual isn't screened early in pregnancy (Grade A). Screening should include both a treponemal and nontreponemal test.
