ACG releases new guideline for eosinophilic esophagitis management
January 28, 2025

The guideline, developed by the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), provides evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis and management of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Recommendations are based on a comprehensive review of current literature and expert consensus.
Key recommendations
- Proton pump inhibitors should be used as a treatment option.
- Topical steroids are recommended for managing EoE.
- Empiric diet elimination can be an effective treatment strategy.
- Biologic therapy is recommended for certain patients.
- Esophageal dilation may be necessary for some patients.
- Feeding therapy should be used adjunctively in children with food aversion or feeding dysfunction.
- Clinical, endoscopic, and histologic assessments should be conducted to evaluate treatment response and maintain therapy.
- Both the inflammatory and fibrostenotic aspects of EoE should be assessed and controlled during patient evaluation and follow-up.
