FDA Consumer Update: Don’t overuse acetaminophen

FDA cautions consumers not to exceed the 4,000-mg-per-day recommended adult dose of acetaminophen when using a single medicine or combination of medicines containing this drug, as doing so can lead to overdose and severe liver damage. The agency also urges consumers not to take more than one OTC medicine containing acetaminophen and to avoid taking a prescription alongside an OTC medication containing acetaminophen unless advised to do so by an HCP.
