Is tramadol effective in hip or knee osteoarthritis?

Tramadol resulted in minimal improvement in pain and function at 12 weeks in patients with knee or hip osteoarthritis, but only at a dose of 300 mg/day, according to a meta-analysis of 6 RCTs involving 3,611 patients. GI and CNS adverse events were significantly more common in tramadol vs. placebo recipients.
