Sigmoid resection vs. conservative treatment following diverticulitis

Among 85 patients with recurrent, complicated, or persistent painful diverticulitis in the randomized LASER trial, elective sigmoid resection improved quality of life and decreased diverticulitis recurrence at 2 years, compared with conservative treatment (patient education and fiber supplementation).
